MITRE is seeking a technically deep and operationally oriented engineer to provide technical leadership across a broad sponsor base focused on the U.S. Army’s critical modernization priorities. The ideal candidate will be an innovative thinker adept at applying new ideas and guiding the development of capabilities across a diverse set of technical disciplines that include Agile software development, Tactical Communications, Signals Intelligence, Electronic Warfare, Mission Command, Cyber Resiliency, Directed Energy, Autonomous Systems, Joint All Domain Command and Control, Sensor-to-Shooter, and the Space domain.
The Army Intelligence and Sensors Department (N212) supports a geographically dispersed set of Sponsors largely based in Aberdeen, MD and the DC areas but with a presence in Colorado Springs, CO and Huntsville, AL. Our mission is to design, deliver and sustain leading edge capabilities focused on intelligence systems, sensors and non-kinetic effects to ensure Army soldiers are equipped with the technology and actionable battlefield intelligence to enable dominance. Key Sponsors include the Army’s Program Executive Officer for Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors (PEO IEW&S) and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Center (C5ISR) Research and Technology Integration. Many initiatives will have larger cross cutting impact across the Army and Department of Defense enterprise.
Roles and Responsibilities:
+ Provide thought leadership to the application of innovative methods, solutions, and capabilities to our direct work program.
+ Develop software for various specialized devices and machines not considered traditional computers while still using traditional software engineering techniques. These systems typically have size, weight, and power (SWaP), cost, real-time, and resource constraints with limited human interaction.
+ Lead cross-cutting prototype initiatives in support of Quick Reaction Capabilities (QRC), MITRE Innovation Program efforts, and competitive acquisition processes.
+ Inform, advise and advocate for appropriate solutions given Sponsor needs, timelines, and infrastructure.
+ Maintain awareness of the current State-of-the-Art techniques and actively look for ways in which they can be applied to MITRE and the sponsors.
+ Identify opportunities for MITRE capabilities to fill gaps in operational workflows and experimentation activities.
Basic Qualifications:
+ Typically, Minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
+ Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Signal Processing, Autonomous Systems, Embedded Systems, Software Architecture, Electrical Engineering.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to articulate complex concepts and topics to sponsors and staff.
+ Demonstrated ability to work well in collaborative and dynamic environments that foster innovation in areas that provide enhanced capabilities to MITRE’s sponsors.
+ Technical leadership demonstrated by proven experience in successfully leading diverse teams to accomplish significant technical outcomes and deliver data driven products to our sponsors.
+ Ability to work independently to learn new technologies, techniques, processes, languages, platforms, and systems.
+ Experience with programming languages such as C++ and Python.
+ Active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI
+ This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ A keen interest in learning about and rapidly responding to new problems across a variety of domains.
+ Experience working in and understanding of the Army Domain.
+ Demonstrated innovative impact affecting a large project or a portfolio.
+ Proven track record of partnering with external organizations, including with the government, academia, and industry to deliver capabilities that meet operational needs.
+ Understanding of Army operations, organizational constructs, priorities, and missions and how technology can be utilized to develop capabilities to advance Army combat advantage.
+ Active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
