Job Title: Piping Project Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Piping Project Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of piping codes and the ability to manage project requirements effectively. This position offers an opportunity to work with a leading company in the gas and steam turbine industry, contributing to projects across North and South America.
Responsibilities
+ Understand and interpret B31.1 and B31.3 Codes, ensuring piping code requirements are correctly defined and incorporated into design and vendor requirements.
+ Interpret and respond to piping technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel with minimal supervision.
+ Review project contracts, schedules, and requirements in detail to determine piping requirements, deliverables, and deadlines.
+ Participate in project kick-off meetings, review contract requirements, and develop/maintain master document lists for the piping and layout engineering group.
+ Prepare inquiry and purchase specifications for piping fabrication, pipe supports, piping hardware, and special elements in piping systems (e.g., flex hoses, strainers, orifice plates).
+ Review isometrics and other piping-related mechanical drawings with minimal supervision.
+ Review P&IDs and equipment drawings against piping drawings.
+ Prepare piping component lists (e.g., valve lists, specialty component lists) using P&IDs and reports from 3D models.
+ Extract reports from piping 3D models.
+ Establish corrective actions to reduce nonconformance and improve quality.
+ Understand piping design philosophy and perform piping designs as needed.
+ General understanding of pipe stress analysis and pipe support.
+ General knowledge of materials and piping hardware (e.g., bolts, nuts, gaskets) in the preparation of piping, valve, and support technical specifications and subsequent purchasing.
+ Develop processes and procedures to ensure effective and optimized use of resources while providing high-quality design packages.
+ Strive for excellence through developing concepts to improve piping systems and reduce costs.
+ Follow up and resolve pending items found during or remaining after project execution up to the expiration of the warranty period.
+ Perform other technical project implementation duties as required by the company.
+ Protect confidential company information by not communicating, disclosing, or using it for the benefit of third parties and maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity.
Requirements
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
+ Ability to prepare technical piping specifications.
+ Experience in purchasing piping.
+ Practical communication skills with vendors.
+ Ability to review and track project schedules, requirements, and deadlines.
+ Experience interfacing with the stress analysis and design groups.
+ Knowledge of B31.1 and B31.3 Codes.
Additional Skills
+ Knowledge of 3D modeling software packages (particularly Smart3D).
+ Familiarity with ASME Section II, PCC, MSSSP, and PFI Codes.
+ Familiarity with welding and NDE processes.
+ Experience in industries such as gas turbines, power plants, oil and gas, and paper mills.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office and two days remotely. The Lake Mary office serves as the North American HQ for Plant Engineering. This multi-disciplinary office includes Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Controls, and Project Management divisions, accommodating roughly 100+ professionals. The work environment is collaborative, fostering innovation and excellence.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
