MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assists investigators and/or analysts by providing follow-up to crime investigations, updating databases, tracking information, and obtaining relevant documents. #oj Minimum Requirements + At least 18 years of age,. + Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English. + U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card. + Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated. + No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis. + High school diploma or general education degree (GED). + Must be able to complete FCIC/NCIC certification within six (6) months of employment and maintain recertification requirements. Depending on the location of assignment, must have a valid Florida Driver’s License and also attend and successfully complete the agency-sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training, if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam. Depending on assignment, an agency vehicle is not guaranteed with this position. Systems may include DAVID, Property Appraiser, FCIC/NCIC, Accurint, OnBase, FINDER, ATF e-Trace, FDLE LIMS system, etc., some of which require mandatory periodic certification. + Ability to assist detectives in obtaining necessary documents. + Ability to enter crime information and updates into various databases and spreadsheets on a continual basis to confirm accuracy. + Ability to answer and provide follow-up phone calls (e.g., to members of the public, other law enforcement agencies, victims of crimes, and/or sexual offenders/predators). + Ability to testify in court hearings about work performed, such as evidence gathering. + Ability to perform general administrative duties such as data entry, filing, handling complaints and questions, notarizing, receiving mail, or scheduling. + Ability to probe all cold case documentation pertaining to sexual assaults, domestics, intelligence, economic crimes, sexual offenses, etc. for review. + Ability to complete incident reports and monthly statistics for supervisors and associated departments or agencies. + Depending on the location of assignment, may be required to perform one or more of the following in addition to regularly assigned duties: + Ability to carry own caseload to investigate misdemeanor cases. Files appropriate cases with State Attorney’s Office. + Ability to aid in follow-up investigations by compiling evidence (this may include collecting physical evidence such as videos), photographing victims, taking sworn statements, completing supplemental reports, doing history checks, and creating/administering photo line-ups for victims and witnesses. + Ability to assist detectives in obtaining case documentation by providing ATF e-Trace reports and forensics processing reports. Tracks the Firearms Laboratory backlog. + Ability to research and track tasking requests from the State Attorney’s Office and assign firearm tasking requests to laboratory personnel. + Ability to enters information and updates into various databases, to include the dissemination of Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) hit information to the appropriate investigative unit. + Ability to enters all firearms collected by the Agency into the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) e-Trace database. Tracks all firearm correlation cases to verify information. + Ability to share recognized trends and patterns within the e-Trace system and CODIS notifications with supervisors and/or other specialty units. Liaison between Evidence and Firearms Laboratory for release of firearms. + Ability to complete latent comparison requests or DNA requests for cases as determined by a detective or supervisor. + Ability to assist and educate victims with court proceedings, which may include providing transportation for the victim. + Ability to collect, submit, and release property/evidence to victims; documents all incidents on property forms and supplemental reports. + Ability to address large groups of people (such as Neighborhood Watch Programs) to provide education and training including crime prevention, criminal justice procedures, and current crime trends. + Ability to create and distribute bulletins and maps with information determined by a detective or supervisor as needed. + Ability to assist in the registration and re-registration process of sexual offenders/predators. + Ability to share recognized trends and patterns with supervisors and/or analysts so that appropriate analysis can be conducted. + Ability to train Pawn Shop, Second-Hand Dealer, Scrap Yard, and Tow Company owners on state statutes and assists deputies with random inspections to verify compliance. + Ability to complete all Nuisance Abatement paperwork to include mailing and confirming delivery of notifications, maintaining appropriate databases, organizing folders presented in nuisance abatement hearings, completing monthly statistics, etc. + Ability to assist in investigations of traumatic events where graphic depictions, descriptions, photographs, and videos of events are presented. + Ability to understand how to handle potentially volatile situations where the suspect may be present, including removing him or herself from the situation and summoning a deputy sheriff. + Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. + Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. + Ability to speak before groups of citizens or employees of the organization. + Must have the ability to learn, understand, express, apply, and demonstrate knowledge of relevant Florida State Statutes as well as Sheriff's Office policies and procedures.
