Intertek’s Building Science Solutions (BSS) group is primarily focused on building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and field performance testing for new construction and retrofit projects. What are we looking for? As an Engineering Technician you’ll perform duties related to building enclosure field performance testing, inspections and diagnostic investigation. This position will travel as business needs indicate with some overnight travel. Shift/Schedule: Monday – Friday core business hours What you’ll do: + Conduct industry tests of building enclosure products and assemblies to evaluate their field performance, safety characteristics, and/or compliance to applicable standards or performance criteria + Conduct field quality assurance assessments of building products and assembly installations for compliance to manufacturer guidelines, project documents and industry standards + Assist with forensic investigations and diagnostic testing of failures within the building enclosure systems + Maintain, clean and calibrate testing equipment, testing vehicles and storage facilities + Participate in in-house and external training opportunities, classes and certification courses This position outline is a general guideline and does not represent all encompassing details. Minimum Requirements & Qualifications: + High School Diploma or GED + Ability to follow verbal or written instructions to assist in transporting, setting up/breaking down equipment and assisting with conducting industry test methods + Ability to work both in small team environments and individually + Should have proficient computer and electronic media skills + Eagerness to learn, strong work ethic, strong organizational skills, and positive work attitude + Ability to utilize basic shop equipment and various hand tools used in building construction + Ability to understand, convey and implement technical information in an effective manner + Visual acuity for reading fine print or for observing changing characteristics (Color, Texture, water leaks, etc.) + Physical dexterity to execute precise tasks using delicate materials and equipment + Physical ability to routinely lift at least 50 pounds + Physical ability to sit, stand, crouch, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, push, pull, etc. + No fear of heights + Ability to travel (infrequently). Some occasional overnight travel may be required. Transportation, accommodation & meals are provided + Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record Preferred Requirements & Qualifications: + University degree is a plus + Previous construction and/or installation experience preferred but not required + Industry certifications and/or qualifications are a plus Intertek: Total Quality.
