Data Engineer Job Description Summary Supports the development and maintenance of scalable data stores that supply big data in forms needed for business analysis. Applies advanced consulting skills and/or extensive technical expertise; full industry knowledge. Develops innovative solutions to complex problems. Works without considerable direction; mentors and may supervise team members. Bachelors degree and 5+ years directly related experience or Masters degree and 3+ years directly related experience. The Opportunity: As a Data Engineer on our team, you have the chance to shape the development and implementation of new centralized database by leading engineering efforts supporting the government. Your customer will trust you to not only design and develop these systems, but also evolve them with advanced technology solutions. On our team, you’ll be able to broaden your skillset into areas like database design and integration; cloud technologies and ETL strategies. Grow your skills by merging development and implementation to create a new centralized database system for use by government agencies. You will develop an integrated/centralized database in GovCloud for a multi-tenant cloud hosting platform to allow many stakeholders the ability to use various datasets. Furthermore, you will work across business lines to understand various business functions and the data they use to support those functions. You will give stakeholders the ability to identify gaps in functionality based on data requirements and help prioritize their data needs. This position is open to remote delivery from any location in the U.S., to include the District of Columbia. You Have: 4+ years of experience developing and maintaining complex and high-performance Microsoft SQL Server database architectures and schemas 4+ years of experience monitoring and tuning databases for high-performance and efficiency 4+ years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server development, including SQL, T-SQL, stored procedures, functions, and views 2+ years of experience creating and modifying extract, transform, and load (ETL) tools that load data from multiple sources into cloud-based data warehouses or data lakes Experience developing and maintaining documentation, including standards and best practices Excellent oral and written communication skills Has strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements Bachelor’s degree Nice If You Have: Experience with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) mapping tools such as BizTalk, WebMethods, Axway, or Edifecs Experience with data modeling tools such as Informatica, Talend, Apache Airflow and Hevo Experience integrating business rules and mappings using tools such as Snowflake Data Cloud, Databricks, Azure Data Factory and Microsoft Fabric Experience with backend application development, data integration, or REST API service Experience with creating solutions in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment Experience with advanced data modeling and warehousing concepts. Experience with data visualization tools such as Power B, Tableau and Splunk Experience with cloud service providers (CSPs), such as AWS and Azure, and their associated services/tools Experience with Agile engineering practices Experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs Knowledge of EDI file types: X12, XML, JSON, NCPDP, and flat files Knowledge of health claims processing Vetting: Applicants selected will be subject to a government investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements of the U.S. government client.
